Posted Breed: Rat Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (short coat). Rocky (2 yrs old and weighs 12#) is a spunky, playful, lovable little guy who loves to be picked up and petted, but also enjoys a good run in a fenced yard and playing with his doggy friends. He is good around cats. He is great on leash and would be the perfect companion to a retiree in need of a reason to go for regular walks. He is not a “yard dog”, but is not yet house trained, but crate trained as long as you are sensible about taking him outside. HE ADORES BEING IN THE YARD IN NICE WEATHER AND BOTH HE AND HIS GIRLFRIEND SALLY ENJOY OUR 1/4 ACRE POND! He is crate trained and just needs a regular schedule. He has just learned the doggy door, so if he has one in his new home, training should be a breeze. We don’t know how he will do with kids, but he seems to have an issue when first meeting a stranger, so the best way to overcome that is by socializing him in a non-threatening environment. Rocky was rescued from the projects when he was discarded in freezing weather, frightened in the rain. They said they “didn’t want him anymore”. We took him and had his defective eye removed, neutered, heartworm tested (negative) & shots. Best guess…Rat Terrier/Chihuahua Mix. His adoption fee is $95 to help cover a portion of his vet fees (double that). Rocky’s side-kick is a 6 yr old Shih Tzu/Yorkie mix (Sally), so ask if you are looking for a pair (Fee for both would be $295). Contact Marla Knight at 251-404-0022, or email: marla@adopt-a-kitty.org Thanks!

More About Rat-Cha Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      rescue
      Breed: Mutt
      Sex: Female Female
      Age: Adult
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). SWEETHEARTS! Tealah is a 2 1/2 year old female Schnauzer mix. Her brother Blackjack is available as well. They are crate trained and house trained, however an adopter needs to realize there may be the potential for accidents in the beginning, so regular potty scheduling is a must. These dogs are mellow, but Tealah gets nervous around young kids, so a quiet home with adults only might be best. Blackjack on the other hand rolls with the flow, but he is protective of his yard when other dogs come around. They vary in size from 25-30# I would say, pending spay and neuter, shots & Heartworm testing as soon as we get an available appointment. Owner's home foreclosed, and she is very sad to lose them. Adoption fee $150 each or $250 for the pair, to cover vetting expense. 14 day money back satisfaction return policy Email marla@adopt-a-kiitty.org or call/text 251-404-0022 ADOPT-A-KITTY.ORG Although we are not a tax exempt organization, we operate in the red (due to extensive costs for vetting & pet food) and greatly appreciate all donations. You can donate via PayPal. SEE OUR HOME PAGE. We encourage you to view all the pets on our site, rather than merely search for a particular breed. We have lots of fabulous pets, and personalities to suit all! Please take the time to give them a chance. We welcome visitors, volunteers, and adopters alike! Thanks from ADOPT-A-KITTY.ORG
