    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Schnauzer / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. UPDATE 9/23 Since Gidget arrived ARWOB she has done wonderfully. She is getting along with all our dogs both small and large and is a total love bug. She will be a great companion dog and would be amazing if she can be adopted into a family that will be able to make sure she continues socializing with both dogs and people as we don't want her getting protective of her person again nor get too nervous she bites out of fear. She is crate and house trained. rides well in the car, seems to do well with cats and loves her toys. Currently she is friends with Jake a 50lb male shepherd and cheese. felix and several other sweet little dogs and pups. If the pups are too crazy and in her face she will sometimes put them in their place but absolutely enjoys their companionship and will play with everyone. If youwould like to foster or adopt Gidget please submit an application online/ Updated 08/15/2018 Gidget is an adorable terrier mix who was adopted as a 6 month old pup back in October 2016 to a family with a small breed senior dog and a couple of children. Sadly, this little girl returned to ARWOB from the family because they don't have time to do training and give her the direction she needs. For the last couple of years without guidance, she had become a sweet dog with behavioral issues which they weren't able to manage or seek profesional help from a trainer. The couple works full time and Gidget became one of their mother in law's primary companions being loved and spoiled, but through the years of not continuing to socialize Gidget with other dogs and people, she became protective of people around their mom. Super sweet with their children and family she knows but developed a slight leash reactivity, doesn't feel comfortable with some dogs and with new people. Trudie

    Breed: Border Terrier-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Border Terrier / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Trudie! Trudie was relinquished from a local San Diego shelter where she was under socialized, but we could see she had a LOT of potential, so we agreed to find her a forever home! She is a little nervous in new situations, but in the right environment she opens up pretty quickly. Trudie is a very smart dog and well behaved, but still needs guidance from humans especially regarding trust issues. She seems to trust women more than she does men, although she does well with men she knows. Realistically, there are certain people who she doesn't trust and takes longer to warm up to. Because of this, the ideal home is a family with no young children (although teens would be fine). Trudie needs an experienced and savvy dog owner who will work with her and understands when she feels intimidated. She seems to be the kind of dog that needs her space when she is in new situations, so it’s best to let her seek attention — she is definitely not an “in your face” kind of dog. Her adopter must be able to read her body language when going out and about because Trudie can feel intimidated if she is approached suddenly. Once Trudie starts to feel confident and warms up to her humans, she loves to seek attention and belly rubs! Trudie enjoy being quiet in her crate and relaxing, but she is also very fond of an active life style, such as talking long walks, hiking, and going to the dog park. She does well in the car and is leash trained. Trudie has been making excellent progress with her foster family. Here is what her foster mom has to say about Trudie: In the past few days she has started running around the yard and playing with my dogs. Trudie is still a little unsure of Charlie inside the house but she no longer lunges at him. She is eating great and has a good recall especially when I have treats! She has had a strong reaction to a few visitors, but after a few visits and a few walks, she has improved significantly. I took her to the Harvest Festival and she did better than I expected. She was confident walking around the event and even let a few men give her treats. I warned them ahead of time not to try and pet her and they didn’t push it. In just 2 weeks time I can already see a difference with her, but I know to take it slow and I’m always aware of what’s going on when we are out and about. All things considered I’d say Trudie is doing very well. She’s really no trouble at all and is fitting in to the household. If you would like to give Trudie the love and forever home she deserves, please fill out an online adoption application right away! She would love nothing better to become part of the family. Don’t wait! Trudie is waiting for you! If you would like to meet one of our animals, PLEASE fill out an adoption application. Aspen and her 11 “Arbor Puppies” were rescued from a yard in Tijuana when neighbors noticed that they were living in squalor in the back yard filled with trash and very unsanitary conditions. Aspen was flea and tick infested when she was rescued and was also treated for mange and parasites. Thankfully she made a full recovery and is a happy and health girl. Aspen is a very loving and happy girl and we can tell she is so grateful to have been rescued by a good Samaritan. She will make a wonderful family pet and would love to find a forever home for herself since all of her puppies have been adopted. Aspen is in boarding and would love to find a foster for her. Someone with experience with strong dogs like aspen ei she’s no petite girl :) Aspen also would need basic dog training to be better on leash. No leash reactivity observed yet. She is ok with dogs but doesn’t really seek dog companionship, she prefers humans. Can be selective with certain dogs. We are always looking for foster families to help our rescues feel at home while we find their forever loving family. We also offer a foster-to-adopt program so that you can get to know Aspen personally. If you interested in giving this lovely girl the safe and happy home she deserves, please fill out an online application right away. She has been through so much and she really just wants to show her humans just how amazing she is. Don’t wait! Go to our website today (.arwob) and submit your application today! Sex: Female Female
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Cattle Dog / Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: $250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Moana is approx. 2yr old give or take 6months. She is full grown at 38lbs and could loose a couple of pounds (poor girl, she had been boarding for a month and she REALLY loves her food). She is a bit of a low rider. short and compact. She has a bit of a cattle dog/Aussie/terrier look to her but unsure of her actual breed. Moana is fantastic with people and would do well with children. She can also be a home protector, she will bark and warn you if someone is by the fence or door. She is crate trained and is not a big barker. She is energetic, a yard or an active adopter is best. She is a large breed dog in a smaller body so a family who can enroll in dog training to make sure her leash manners and basic dog obedience like sit, stay are learned. She is a wonderful companion and lives with several dogs, she is great with most dogs as long as they are friendly, she will not do well with an alpha dog. She would also do well as an only dog. Currently Angie and her are good friends. She also is around cats, while supervised, would likely not leave unsupervised. She does well in car rides and would also do well in agility as she can jump ! Update: All of Moana's pups have been adopted and now it is Moana's turn to find the forever home of her dreams. Just look at that face of hers...she is as sweet as she looks! If you are interested in adopting Moana, please submit a dog adoption application online. Breed: Mutt
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Meet Jake! Jake is handsome Shepherd mix, who was rescued as a stray in Ensenada, Mexico. He is approximately 3 years old and 50 pounds. His right eye is blue and his other eye is brown, so he is definitely unique. He is a happy-go-lucky guy, with a super sweet and easy going personality. He exhibits a good demeanor toward both people and other dogs. At this point he has been exposed to cat under supervision and does not seem interested in them, we would only recommend a kitty in the same home under supervision. Jake is an amazing dog! He is fantastic with humans, children, and most dogs(he doesn't appreciate fast approach in his face type dogs like young licky face pups and teens, teens tend to stop after a frew corrections and then he accepts them and plays with them) He is not perfect with all dogs, but he likes to play and socialize with most. He has never had an accident in the house or home and is very calm, except when he is playing. He is smart, loving, enjoys car rides, and has no separation anxiety. He is not a big barker. We are looking for a foster family for Jake so that we can secure him as soon as possible. If you become a foster parent for ARWOB, you will get all the fun and love a dog can give, but at no cost to you. You can open your heart and your home, and we provide everything you will need: food, bed, toys, and vet care. On the other hand, if you are thinking about adopting right away, this is a great opportunity to take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program. You can foster Jake for 10-14 days, to make sure you are the right match! If you are interested in fostering and/or adopting this young man, please fill out an online application right away! Cooper

    Breed: Australian Shepherd-Unknown Mix
    Sex: Male Male
    Age: Adult
    Location: USA
Posted Breed: Australian Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Looking to adopt an Aussie? If you are applying to adopt Cooper, we request you THOROUGHLY read this detailed and long bio to KNOW who Cooper is and what kind of adopter we are looking for him. Thank you! and check out his videos! Meet Cooper! Cooper was adopted from ARWOB back in 2015 when he was 5 months old. At the time he was adopted, he was a happy, loving, well behaved typical pup. He was full of shenanigans like most puppies, but he got along with all animals and people. A fantastic pup! Sadly, Cooper’s owners have relinquished him and he came back to ARWOB in September of 2017. He is now a full grown typical Aussie mix with a few trust issues towards strangers. We are seeking an experienced dog owner that has knowledge of Aussie personalities to keep Cooper mentally stimulated and physically active, and out of trouble! The ideal adopter will be a house WITHOUT children and preferably without cats. However, we do think he will be fine with children who are respectful of dogs and supervised. Cooper always says hi to children when out on walks or if they approach to pet him. Of course, this applies to the children who say hi in a none threatening manner. like most dogs Cooper will not tolerate a child pulling at his tail or approaching him inappropriately. He has lived in a home with multiple dog savvy cats and he will walk around them in the living room but his Foster notes he will try to take advantage of the cats who aren't supervised or cornered in a room of the home without direct supervision. For this reason, a home without cats is best Unless the home has a particular set up like his current Foster. When Cooper came back to us in September, it was because he nipped a friend who entered the previous owners' home, gotten to a chicken in the yard, as well as dog aggression, we didn't know what we were going to expect. We were pleased when we received Cooper and realized this guy is an amazing dog with just a few quirks — he needs a steady, safe, and structured home in order to build his confidence around strangers and new situations. WHO is Cooper as of 01/2018 Cooper is a 48lb dog who could lose 2-3 lbs. Cooper seeks to be loved. He melts in your hands when petting him and loving him. His smile is infectious when he meets new people who want to pet him, and he loves attention! He is SMART... oh, SO very smart! He has basic training like sit, stay, shake, and other easy basic commands. He is house and crate trained. He has never had an accident in the house. He doesn't destroy things, but he loves his toys. He loves food but is not a food hound., and he loves walks and car rides. He loves to cuddle in bed and is total love bug. He is not a big barker and the only time he barks is when hints are going around his home or if warning about something. He also is not a yappy dog when people enter the home or when he walks ei no leash reactivity, BUT there are certain situations and people or scenarios that will get him riled up and his new adopter will need to be observant to be able to avoid issues for example: when walking him and he encounters construction crews or gardners, also UPS trucks or motorcyclea, and scooters. He tends to get excited and bark at those when they go by. Cooper is great with dogs. He has lived with his Foster since he came to Arwob in September and there have been many dogs from different breeds, ages, and size. Cooper is good friends with many and with some it takes a little to come around, but he doesn't start or look for fights. He knows when a dog is alpha or a strong personality and he, too, can be growly with that introduction and easily correctable. Puppies or dogs who have no boundary concept and are in his face being "licky face" he will not tolerate and growl or try to snap, but if you correct the other dogs and they present themselves well, he will test them and slowly, over the period of couple of days, moves on. He, then, doesn't care that they do that and eventually, depending on the dogs personality, he will play with them. His BFF is Benny, the 25 Doxie shep mix, and Daphne, the 55lb black lab mix. He tends to share toys and likes to play keep away or tug of war wth people or dogs. Cooper is NOT a dog park dog. He needs further training and an adopter who will be willing and absolutely interested in signing up with a dog trainer/behaviorist to make sure a dog trainer assesses him and his new family to train BOTH parties on what is good and not. Cooper is an out of this world, easy loving, playful. smart, excellent companion, but he is NOT for everyone so he needs someone who knows how to handle a dog on the otherside of the leash....someone who is looking for an amazing companion in a dog , but not necessarily Mr Popularity. Any adopter is welcome to meet him and possibly have a trainer assess him to make sure he is the right match for you. Even better, Foster to adopt him for a month before you make the lifetime commitment. We love Cooper and someone is truly missing out on this amazing dog! Don't be scared and give him a chance. He is easier than you think, but work needs to still be done. We will request adopters show proof of enrollment with a trainer in order to adopt him. Good adopters understand the importance of structure and leadership... especially on working dogs and SMART dogs! We are in immediate need of a foster home for Cooper or a potential adopter that would like to take advantage of our foster-to-adopt program. Cheese has been with us for a LONG TIME and we are shocked! is it just because she's a chihuahua? It can't be! That would be CRAZY she is beautiful and amazing. Cheese has been growing up under our care and has gone through several foster homes, for lack of ability to keep her longer but everyone loves her. She does great with humans big and small, as well as cats and dogs. Sometimes she will be a little indeferent when meeting new dogs or getting to know them BUT she always makes friends and plays like crazy. She of course prefers human attention, love and FOOD! Although she is extra small at only 6.5lbs and approx 10 months old she is absolutely under 10lbs full grown. She has a little chi face but long skinny legs giving her that whippet look, although she trully looks like a miniature FOX! She is crate trained, does well in the car, leash and she is not a yappy chihuahua but she is a typical small breed dog who has the ability and capacity to become a little barker unless she is corrected, when she is corrected she is an angel, if you don't have structure she will become a little diva! we have seen it as she has gone through different fosters, as well all know, some spoil more than others, ha ha If you aren't sure about adoption, ask us about our foster to adopt trial for 1-2 weeks to get to know her before you commit to a lifetime adoption. Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250.00. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. Handsome Felix is a total cutie. He has the most gentle disposition and although he looks like an overgrown JRT/Chi/Doxie/terrier mix already full grown, this low rider is close to 20 pounds.. a perfect larger small breed. He is not high energy, he is great with dogs.. even other male dogs as he tends to be mostly submissive, passive, and gentle. He will play with dogs, but likes to be around people as well. He is good with people, dogs and cats, although he can be scared of some cats. He can be shy with new people he meets; he allows them to approach, but will back away slowly being a little nervous. Iit takes him a few minutes and he will come around and approach for attention. He can get nervous and has this adorable little smile/lip lifting. Poor little guy... when he first came to us it would take a while for him to come inside the house and cross the door threshold but with a little help from some of his dog friends to help him build trust and courage, hehas begin to know it's ok to come inside. He hasn't had accidents in the house, but can't guarantee he is house trained. He is crate trained. Felix is not a big barker, hasn't shown signs of separation anxiety especially when he is left home in his crate. He would be fine with a working adult or a family, as long as the children can be at first understanding and slow with him for a few days until he feels comfortable with them. He loves to be in the yard sun bathing and does well in the yard when alone or with other dog friends. Felix is occasionally head shy, especially if approached too fast or you try to grab him by his collar to bring him close to you. This behavior is mostly with new people he meets; he doesn't really exhibit that scared behavior to people he knows. Felix will be a wonderful gentle, sweet, loving and funny new family addition for a wonderful forever home who would like to welcome him into their life. Posted Breed: Shepherd / Beagle / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 250. Please review our Adoption Process before filling out an application. May is the best shepherd/something mix! Excellent dog for first time dog owners and families. UPDATE 9/23 from another short term Foster: I fostered May for 2-1/2 weeks and she was a joy to have at my house. She loves her crate and sleeps in it all night and when I was away from home and I often found her napping in it when I was home. She is house trained and did not have a single accident. She got along great with my small dogs and was very gentle with them. She's not a barker, and not food aggressive at all. She loves going on walks and she took every one of the dog toys out of the basket to play with. She's a lot of fun and super sweet. 07/2018 This adorable little shepherd mix is truly one of a kind! She has an amazing, sweet, gentle disposition. May was rescued from the streets of Tijuana in mid May when someone noticed she was pregnant and due any day. Sadly, we didn't have a foster for long term care and we also couldn't leave her in the streets to her luck about to become a mom. We made the decision to take her in and spay her the same day so we could take her into rescue and offer her safety. May is amazing! She was very shy and slowly opened up to us and trusts us. She was very difficult to approach in the streets and would run away. Now, you call her name, and she runs around seeking attention and love. We are still getting to know her and so far we have nothing but great things to say about this girl. If you would like to foster little May before adopting, we would be happy to do a foster to adopt trial. She seems to do well with dogs (and cats if supervised but has MOT been left unsupervised). She does great in the crate and loves to sun bathe in the sun in the yard as well. She is calm and observant and she is learning to be a dog, learning that the leash is ok and walking inside the home is also ok. Thankfully, she is learning from our other rescues who are guiding her through these new changes for her. Angie is an adorable wired hair small terrier, full grown, approx 12-15lbs who was rescued a month ago from a home where both her sister and her were left behind in an abandoned home. These girls didn't get along or perhaps were fighting for resources since they were left alone without food or water for a week before neighbors noticed the dogs had been left behind. Both girls were rescued and had to be separated into different homes because they did not get along. Angie is ok around most dogs.... especially puppies or submissive dogs, but she is not really fond of dogs nor interested in being friends with them. She would do best in a home in which the adopters are looking for an excellent family dog who loves people and children who are looking to throw the ball around the yard or go hiking, walking, and exploring San Diego. She is not an active dog always, but enjoys being active which means if her family would like to go on an outing, she is always ready to go, but if someone is just home or is a homebody, she loves it too! She does ok around cats when people are present and keeping her in check, but Angie shouldnt be left home alone with the kitties because she may try to chase and do what little terriers do. Angie loves children. She can act indifferent when she first meets people, but once she is in a home for a week or two, she opens up and is the happiest with her family and people she knows. She is not going to be a nippy dog around strangers, but she will also not be the most social around new people. She can be very snappy with other dogs andshe does best with smaller, male submissive or easy going male dogs. She doesn't have leash reactivity or try to attack dogs, she just prefers to keep her distance from them...especially dogs that are "in her face" without easy introduction. CONS - She doesn't seek to have doggy friendship unless its pups or small breed male goofy friendly dogs She has a habit of overmarking the perimeter of the house by kicking dirt around too. She will hyperactively do it the first couple weeks and it subsides. In the house, she will have a couple accidents at the beginning, but with verbal correction she understands she is doing wrong and aims to improve and stop. PROS Great with people and children Not a big yappy barky dog unless its security wise No leash reactivity Good in the car Crate trained Great for a family or working individual, IDEALLY as the only dog or take a slow time to introduce properly to other dogs. Excellent health Please, submit an application today to schedule a meeting and hopefully adopt her or check our event calendar for scheduled events and animal attendance.
