Posted Breed: Greyhound / Feist (short coat). Sarafina Playful Guy! Erkel is a fun loving guy who spent a great deal of time in a shelter in TN waiting for his chance. It finally came and he is enjoying his freedom. He loves to run. Well, yes, he is part Greyhound! And because of this, only applicants with a fenced yard will be considered for the sake of safety. He is about 5 years old. His coat is very unique-- a real beautiful dog. He is working on walking on a leash without the fancy zig zag walk. Erkel will make a wonderful family dog for your active family. He loves his fun but always settles down and lays by your side. His adoption fee is $275.00. If you are interested in any of our dogs, please complete an application at www.betterdaysarecominginc.org. We are looking for wonderful homes for so many dogs. Won't you please help? If you have any questions, feel free to call or text Carlise at 716-335-0045. PLEASE NOTE: If you are interested in any of our dogs, please fill out an application. An interested adopter with a tentatively approved application always takes precedence over someone who calls or emails us. You will not be obligated if you fill out an application. However, it shows us you are serious and we can check that you sound like a good fit for that particular dog. If you fill out an application and get an error message, scroll back to the top to see what caused the error. In most cases, people left an item blank. More About Greyhound Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

      Breed: Jack Chi
      Sex: Male Male
      Age: Senior
      Location: USA
Posted Breed: Jack Russell Terrier / Chihuahua / Mixed (medium coat). Sarafina His life was turned upside-down! Tim came up from KY 4 years ago with his brother Tom. Both were extreme neglect cases. Tim was blind but had eye survery that restored vision in one eye. His right eye could not be saved. Both boys were brought back to good health They were recently returned to our rescue because their parents were moving across country and had health and financial problems. To their credit, they called us up and Tim and Tom were able to return to their previous foster, me. They adjusted well. Sadly we are now only looking for a home for Tim because Tom recently was diagnosed with liver cancer and doesn’t have long to live. It will be rough for Tim but he has always been resilient! He did fine when Tom was away having his spleen removed. Tim does not do well with dogs (other than Tom) and also is not good with cats. If this were not the case, I would keep him here but there are 5 dogs and 2 cats living with us. So, we are looking for a super loving home for him. Ideally, it would be good if there was someone home a lot so he will not be lonely. Tim weighs about 17 pounds. We think he is between 11-13 years of age. It was hard to get a good age estimate on him because of his poor condition when he arrived from KY. Even with his senior status, he is quite healthy and actually somewhat athletic! He jumps up on our retaining wall and runs around the yard. He has been to the vets since his return and is up to date on his vaccines. Tim had extensive dental work done several years ago and has about 8 teeth left. That doesn’t stop him from enjoying his meals and always licking his bowl clean. Tim has quite the bark but uses it mostly to hurry you up to put his food bowl down. He loves laying in the warm sun. I am looking for someone who will give him a permanent loving home. We are looking for more than just a good home but a home that will give him unconditional love for the rest of his life. He would do well with a retiree. He does not have high exercise needs but he does need to go outside 4-5 times a day. He is housetrained but will have an accident if expected to hold it too long. He would enjoy short walks or a romp in a fenced yard. With our 50 for 50 senior discount, if you are over 50 years of age and adopt a senior dog, the adopt fee is 50% off. Tim’s adoption fee is $1O0.00. To apply, please go to www.betterdaysarecominginc.org. Call or text Margaret at 716-480-4357 if you have any questions.
