    Breed: Mountain Cur-Unknown Mix

Posted Breed: Mountain Cur / Mixed (short coat). Our first step is an application which can be filled out atwww.cvrrescue.org p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545} An update from Shayla's foster parents, "We weren’t planning on taking in another foster. This is how it always goes. We saw a video of Shayla, mountain cur, in the shelter, terrified. A precious little girl, not knowing why she got dropped off, where she was or who these people were. Typically, these kinds of dogs (scared) don’t do well in shelters. To give her a fighting chance we took her in. The first week, she mostly hid in the back bedroom and would peek out every so often to see what new noise she had just heard. Even now, she still likes her own bed (probably because she didn’t have one) but is much more social now. Shayla, most likely, will not make a first good impression as she is still weary of new things and people. But we have been working with her and allow her to meet anyone new so it’s not quite so scary anymore. She does know some commands, is potty trained and we are working on staying “down” as she gets extremely excited when you come home. And just for fun, she’s learning to dance. Shayla does live with 6 other dogs and 4 cats. While she sort-of tries to nibble on the cats, she is not aggressive and they are all still alive. (She has been with us 4 months.) Update: Shayla has adjusted to foster care and seriously does great with the dogs and cats (and even foster puppy) in the home. She enjoys her inside cuddle time and understands her routine. She would love to have a routine in a forever home though. This girl is just gentle and sweet as can be. IS she your next forever friend? She thinks so! Shayla was timid in the shelter but is already doing SO much better in her foster home. She loves other dogs, ignores cats, and appreciates a good belly rub. She is quiet in the crate and her house training is coming along great. She is very gentle. This dogs adoption fee is $175 which covers the following: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, dhp/p, rabies, bordatella (agre appropriate vaccines), deworming, and all the care he received while with CVRR. All animals are on flea and tick and parasite prevention for the duration in fostercare. We are an volunteer group, who process the applications so please be patient and understand that it takes an average of 7-14 days to process the applications including reference checks, follow-up questions. You can expedite the process by providing accurate phone and email addresses for all your references. Time to make phone calls is limited and we often have multiple applications in process . We make every effort to move through them as quickly as possible. When your application is approved, we will schedule a meet-and-greet to see if the dog picks you too. If it seems that the adoption will be a good match for all, there is an adoption fee and an adoption contract to be signed. The adoption fees help cover a portion of the care provided to the animals. All dogs and cats are microchipped and all animals adopted out are spayed/neutered and fully vetted. **All of our animals have a lifetime commitment. If for any reason, the adoption does not work out, the cats and dogs are to come back to CVRR, which is a NO kill rescue.*** The foster family and the rescue volunteers will choose the new home based on the best fit for the dog/cat. Posted Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Our first step is an application which can be filled out at www.cvrrescue.org *Update* Help us find the perfect forever family for our longest CVRR foster dog. He's been in our care since September of 2016. From his foster parents, "It’s hard to believe Mr Atticus Finch has been with us a year now. He has learned so much and we are so proud of him. Atty is a 3 (or 4) yr old Staffordshire Terrier and he is currently living in our home with 6 dogs and 4 cats. He is a neutered male weighing around 70lbs who has been great with all his foster friends. He has been to the forest farmers market and there was introduced to children for the first time since coming to live with us, and he was fantastic. They hugged him, and sat on the ground with him and he just loved every second of it. He happily greeted anyone who approached him, and he was especially interested when a treat was offered. Atty loves to give hugs and wet willy kisses. Atticus is kennel trained and spends time in his kennel only when we both have to leave home. He is potty trained and he LOVES going outside. On a nice day he almost refuses to come inside (we have a fenced in yard and he loves to lay in the sun.) Toys are a huge motivator for Atticus, and we have discovered that they are necessary for him when he meets anyone new (human or non-human). It has turned out to be a great way to harness his attention so he doesn’t jump up on people, or run right up to a new dog and scare them. He’s just a big boy. Atticus is leash trained, but for the first few minutes he gets a little overly excited and can be hard to handle due to his size. We have been working on this, and that’s where the toy has been a great tool that has been successful in calming him down. In addition to having 4 dogs of our own and 3 foster dogs we also dog sit. Atticus has been great with all the dogs we have watched over the past year that he has been in our care. He just needs someone willing to handle big love!" - Atticus came to our care in September 2016. He was a stray that we pulled from the shelter. In foster care he is a great big teddy bear who loves attention and belly rubs. He makes doggie friends quickly and has done fine with kitties except they don’t always appreciate his sloppy kisses. He is very muscular and when on leash is very excited to meet people. He needs a firm hand and some training for this but seems eager to please and should learn quickly. He has greatly astonished his foster parents with how gentle he is towards others. Fill out an application and come see this sweet and gentle bear, Atticus, because he wants to see you! The adoption fee for this dog is $175.00 which helps to cover a portion of the care provided, including: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, age appropriate vaccinations: DHLP/P, Bordetella, Rabies, deworming, and any medical care received while with CVRR. All animals are on flea/tick and parasite prevention for the duration in foster care. She settled in and learned to love the finer things in life. Currently in foster home with a toddlers, cats, and other dogs she does well with everyone in the household. This Mama dog just arrived in her foster home this August so we are still getting to know her. She is gentle, easy going, and a little shy. She greeted the resident dogs, cats, and toddler without issue. We don't believe she has ever been housed inside before so she will have a little to learn. We think we will find her to be a very eager student. She is around 1 year old and best guess-beagle and GSD. Posted Breed: Terrier / Boston Terrier / Mixed. Our first step is an application which can be filled out atwww.cvrrescue.org Foster mom Update 9/27/17: Stella ... So full of life. She was so shy when she came to us. Afraid to even think about giving kisses, getting too close, or coming inside. Now she will exfoliate a layer of skin with her slobbery kisses, push her way past you in her exuberance to be near you and with you, and joyously follow you from room to room. She appears to have been an outside dog in her previous life as she has no shame in peeing on the floor right next to you. She loves praise, though, so as long as you are vigilant about watching her for clues she will gladly do her business outside. She loves our fenced in backyard and while we are gone, we leave her outside. No issues at all with digging, and she hardly ever barks. At night when we bring her in, she can be a bit pushy trying to get ALL of everyone's love but never to the point of aggression with us or our other dog. Not food aggressive either, but seriously loves herself some dog chow. A bit of a Lynchburg foodie, you might say. ;) A note from Stella foster mom: STELLA is a sweet and super submissive post-puppy gal. Even when accosted by our resident mini Schnauzer who was acting like an ornery bully to her, Stella (3 times her size) would just avert her eyes and walk away with head lowered. Not sure what this sweet girl has been through in her life, but it sure hasn't ruined her inner beauty. Stella acts truly thankful for every meal and every loving pat on the head. Stella came into our care from a shelter. We don't know any background as she was a stray although she apparently had puppies because she still had milk when she came into the shelter. She is adjusting to life in a foster home very well. She was amazing on her 1st day of being introduced to the resident dogs, cats, and toddler. She seems to have a special liking for kids-maybe ready to be a nanny after having been a mama - haha!! Stella is a real sweetheart! This dogs adoption fee is $175 which covers the following: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, dhp/p, rabies, bordatella (agre appropriate vaccines), deworming, and all the care he received while with CVRR. She loves everyone and everything she meets and simply needs some work with self control and learning some calming cues. Violet is smart and eager to please so we think with a good outlet for her exercise and someone with matched energy and adventurous spirit she will excell! Both have wonderful manners, are house trained, and don’t chew on anything other than their toys. They've made themselves at home in foster care and transitioned without any problems. August loves a good game of fetch and she just got her teeth cleaned so she’s ready to give kisses. Rizzie loves a good belly rub and being outside keeping an eye on the squirrels and sun bathing. They're the perfect companions for a walk in the neighborhood or curling up on the couch to watch tv. Rizzie and August are 10 year old girls that were sadly surrendered to the shelter by their mom. Due to her own health she could no longer care for her girls and wants to find them another loving home. Rizzie is the brindled boxer hound mix and August is the tan beagle mix. They are doing great in foster care and enjoying meeting all the resident dogs and cat. Very sweet and laid back girls. Both are house trained, spayed and up to date on all their shots. August has already picked out a few favorite toys and Rizzie has found her a spot on the couch. They would love to be adopted together. He was an outside dog but potty training has not been an issue. He's learning good rules, like sharing, staying down, sit and crate training. He even waits to hear his name to get treats with his brothers and sisters. This boy is so happy to be loved, his tail never stops wagging...even when he takes your shoe, hides it and gets reprimanded for it. He was in our care last year for around 6 months last year where he stole heart hearts of everyone he met. We are very surprised that after being adopted he exhibited pushy behavior that made the adopters uncomfortable with keeping him around small children He is in the same foster home that retained him last year and has a resident two year old that has coexisted without issue. FRom the description of the in incident, Sammy has forgotten his position in the household so we will buckle down encouraging him remember who is the human and who is the dog ;) EDIT more than a month back in foster care and he is still problem free. Here's a short video of Sammy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yYlDXCG60Js Sammy also has a bit of wanderlust. Anyone who knows how hounds are, knows that once they get a whiff of anything that smells fun they're off on the trail! Posted Breed: Husky / Mixed (medium coat). Our first step is an application which can be filled out atwww.cvrrescue.org Saban has lived his life in a very loving home. Unfortunately he and the other resident dog have been getting into squabbles and his owners feel like one of the two dogs need to be re-homed for safety of all. They have tried to do everything they can to control their behavior to prevent any fighting and are very sad to have to make this choice. The other dog has issues that would make his rehoming more complicated. "Saban is a very loving dog, loves to be petted constantly, he is great on dog walks and runs. He loves going on car rides and camping. He lives in house with an 8 year old child, so he is kid friendly. We call him "The Major" because he has never met a stranger. It is my belief Saban would be a great fit in another environment. When we are home, he loves to stay outside with the ability to safely entertain himself. Only thing, he is scared to death to be left outside at night." We arent sure if Saban's issues are strictly with his companion or with other dogs in general. We recommend setting up a meet and greet if an adopter has other dogs and is considering Saban. Probably the safest bet is simply to choose a home with no other dogs. This dogs adoption fee is $175 which covers the following: spay/neuter, microchip, heartworm testing, dhp/p, rabies, bordatella (agre appropriate vaccines), deworming, and all the care he received while with CVRR. Our first step is an application which can be filled out atwww.cvrrescue.org
