Overview: | Among the lesser known and oldest of the Russian sighthounds are the Tasy and Taigan. The Tasy hails from the endless desert plains east of the Caspian Sea, where he is also an endurance dog. The ringed tail, tapering head and coat with heavy ear fringes'as well as his home area bordering on northern Iran and Afghanistan' may hint at his historical bonds. The fact that the Afghan Hound (who in his native working state had less hair) is sometimes called Tazi is even more intriguing. Rural hunters have used the Tasy for coursing hare, marmot, fox, hooved game and even wolf. This dog is nimble and can even go into thicket and forest in pursuit. It has a capable nose as well and can search for game by scent before it sees the quarry and begins the chase. |
