Airedale Terrier

A.K.A. : Waterside Terrier, Bingley Terrier
Overview: Airedales can be great family pets. They're fun-loving and great with children, though they should probably be supervised due to their large size and rambunctious spirit.
Breed Group: Terrier
Weight (lbs): 45
Height (in): 23
Colors: Tan with black or grizzled saddle.
Coat: Coat Is smooth, hard, and wire-haired.
Character: Airedale Terriers are loyal, yet they have a stubborn streak. Infrequent barkers, these dogs make great playmates and are very intelligent.
Temperament: This breed is very patient with children and tolerant of other household pets. They may occasionally try to dominate other dogs, however, so training is required.Airedales can be an excellent choice for a family dog.
Care: The Airedale Terrier's coat usually requires very little grooming. The hair should be plucked twice yearly. Show dogs require much more intensive grooming.
Training: This breed is intelligent and understands trainers very well. Care must be taken to keep them occupied during training, however, as they can become easily bored.
Activity: The Airedale Terrier should be allowed three walks a day, plus an ample yard for playing catch and running around.
Country of Origin: United Kingdom
Health Issue: This breed is very hardy, but may suffer from eye problems, hip dysplasia, and skin infections.
Life Expectancy: 10-12

More About Airedale Terrier Breed
If you’re looking to adopt a dog and don’t know where to start, puppyfinder.com is an excellent source for information about adopting a dog and will connect you with hundreds of shelters across the US that have adoptable puppies and older dogs waiting for forever homes.
  1. Do your research – find out what types of dogs would be a good fit for your lifestyle and the activity level of your family. Also keep in mind the grooming needs of certain breeds that might require frequent maintenance.
  2. Decide what you can handle – before you get sucked in by all the adorable puppy eyes you’re about to see, think long and hard about the appropriate age dog for your family or if you are capable of caring for a special needs dog. Puppies are a lot of work, if you don’t have time for potty training and obedience classes you’ll want to consider an older dog. There are plenty of middle aged, vibrant dogs up for adoption as well as many senior dogs that would be a great fit for a family looking for a more subdued dog with lots of love to give.
  3. Learn about the shelters and their adoption policies – It might be easier to start looking at shelters within a certain radius of home but don’t be afraid to venture out to other states as well. Many states have larger populations of adoptable dogs and their shelters are willing to transport pets to suitable adopting families. Some shelters might have requirements for a home visit, a fenced yard or require you to visit the pet multiple times before you commit to adopting. Understand that the shelters are doing their best to place the pets in suitable homes and these requirements are in the best interest of both you and the pet.
  4. Start looking… Once you know what you’re looking for and what to expect you can start your search through thousands of adoptable dogs. PuppyFinder allows you to search by age, breed, location and gender.
  5. Meet in person. Whenever possible it is best to meet the animal in person before agreeing to bring them into your life. Even though photos and descriptions can tell you a bit about a dog, you can’t get a true feeling for the animal until you are able to interact with them and make sure they are a good fit for your entire family, including other pets.

Meet WhipCreme! Shelter dogs are not broken. They've simply experienced more life. If they were human, we'd call them wise. They would be the ones with tales to tell and stories to write. They would be the ones dealt a bad hand who responded with courage. Do not pity a shelter dog. Adopt one. Believe in them and be proud to have their greatness by your side. Please read her story! WhipCreme is one of the sweetest dogs ever. She is loving, she is kind, and she deserves the perfect forever home! ❤️ 6 years old ❤️ 37 pounds ❤️ Australian Shepherd/White Shepherd mix ❤️ House and crate trained WhipCreme can be a bit timid, but give her a little time and she'll cuddle up with you and stay all day. She's good with cats and the other dogs in the home. Peanut butter, ear scratches, and belly rubs are some of her favorite things. Her story! She had been at a rural shelter for over a month, way too long and was in danger because she was HW positive. She was not going to get adopted being HW positive. She needed a rescue group where she could be in a loving foster home to give her time to learn trust and happiness. WhipCreme was part of a seizure case with 13 other dogs. Not a good home life, WhipCreme lived outside on a chain. She would get pregnant, have puppies and the puppies would die from fire ants. Then she would have another litter.............It's horrible to think about her having to go through such a heartbreaking and cruel existence, She has had several litters of puppies. In spite of all this adversity, Whip is the gentlest, sweetest, most beautiful soul EVER! She is a little on the shy side but warms up to you as she gets to know you, Just a sweet gentle girl that has been through a lot. Her foster mom saw her sweet face and heard her story and knew she had to step up and provide some love and TLC and help her find her forever family. She is good with other dogs and most cats, she basically ignores them. She is a easy girl, not needy, is mellow, not rambunctious. She walks well on a leash, loves to ride in the car and is enjoying her soft new doggie bed. WhipCreme is looking to re- write her story by being a member of a loving family this time, Can you help her start? Please take a chance on Whip! She will steal your heart!! She is spayed, UTD on vaccinations, and Micro Chipped. She was treated for heartworms and is now on monthly preventative. All she needs now is a forever home to call her own! If you are interested in meeting this deserving girl, please complete an application on our website and her foster mom will be in touch. Meet Smokey... Hello I'm Smokey,, I am approximately a 1 year old Chocolate Lab/Strafford mix that came from the Lancaster Animal Shelter. I love to make my people happy and want to be with them all the time. So much so that if I am left in the back yard too long I will try to find you, even if it means I have to climb a 6 ft wood fence!!!! I get along great with the other dogs at my Foster house and haven't had any problems. They have kids ranging from 12-16 and I love playing with them. Smokey is a great dog he goes into his kennel without any problems and sometimes on his own just to take a nap. He gets along with our other dogs(lab, great Pyrenees and black mouth Cur). He is house broken and has not had any accidents yet. He does great with kids and really just wants to make people happy. He loves people and wants to be close to you. He does not like being alone outside to long without someone around (think he has some abandonment issues). Smokey gets along great with other dogs and children not sure about cats. He does well on a leash and we are working on basic commands. This is my third dog to foster and Smokey is the easiest one so far. I really cant believe he sat in the shelter as long as he did. His personality is way, way more lab. He is gently and for his age calm as can be. Some lucky family is going to get an absolute great dog with Smokey!!
